Avoiding stroke recurrence via advanced neuroimaging

Stroke is an alteration of cerebral blood flow and metabolism of the brain cells, causing damage to neuronal tissue and its functions, leading to permanent disability and being one of the leading causes of death worldwide.

This project aims to implement the use of advance neuroimaging via innovative magnetic resonance (MR) to identify patients at risk of recurrent stroke, enabling timely and effective intervention, so improving patients’ outcomes.

This advanced neuroimaging holds therefore a great potential for stroke prevention, allowing the study of cerebral flow and hemodynamics. These techniques allow for the rapid identification of affected areas at risk of stroke recurrence.

Imaging methods that study cerebral perfusion, flow and collateral circulations, as well as cerebrovascular reactivity are key pillars of our research.
